Because there’s so much more to do on a typical day.
If you are a working woman, irrespective of whether you work at home or in an office, I’m guessing you don’t have an hour every morning to sit at the dresser and indulge in looking fashionable.
Also, if something goes wrong with what you’re wearing, you look for quick, easy fixes that you can handle yourself, so that you can move on to meet that deadline.
This article is for you. To save you loads of time and to keep you looking smart, here’s a list of 10 simple things you can do right now.
1. Zipping up solo:
Though it would be nice to always have someone else to help you pull up the back-zipper of your dress, it is not absolutely necessary. All you need is a string (or an old chain) and a safety pin.
Loop in the head of the zipper and one end of the string to the pin, hold the other end of the string, and comfortably pull up the zip. Then detach the pin. Simple.
2. A paper clip to hide those bra straps:
If you’re wearing a sleeveless top with a narrow back, you don’t always need a strapless bra or one with transparent straps. Wear any bra you pick, and hide the bra straps by clipping them together using a paper clip.
The straps don’t shift, leaving you to move freely and get things done.
3. Make up space for more hangers:
Folding clothes is quite a mindless task, and the creases it leaves on the clothes can hold it back from looking perfect. Instead, use more hangers to save on the folding time and the ironing ritual.
You can use a simple can cork to attach one hanger to the other. That way, you save time and space.
How about that?
4. Keep your bra straps from slipping:
At some point, those bra straps might give up on you and start slipping off your shoulders, and that can be quite annoying. We all know the tricks we pull sometimes to put the straps back up, only for them to slip off again.
Avoid this mishap by sewing in a small loop that can be clipped open and close on the inside of the top’s shoulder area. Every time you wear the top, simply loop in the bra strap and close the loop. This hold the straps in place and you will never face the embarrassing episodes of slippery straps again.
5. No more shoe odor:
If you work long hours, and if formal shoes are a staple of your wardrobe, they are bound to absorb the sweat from your feet and, after a few days, start smelling. While the first instinct is to spray some perfume inside the shoe, the whole charade can be avoided.
Keep unused tea bags handy in your shoe storage area. When you take your shoes off, always keep one tea bag in each shoe before storing. These tea bags are amazing at absorbing the extra moisture and the smell.
This saves you that minute every morning that was lost in spraying perfume, not to mention, it also saves up on the perfume itself.
6. Glossy shoes need glossy nail polish:
If your glossy shoe has caught some stains, it might catch the observation of your peer during an interaction. As a hack, always have nail polish that matches the color of your shoes, so that you can cleverly cover up the stains by touching up the area with the nail polish.
Use double coat to completely hide the stain and you won’t have to think about it for days.
7. Lock your bracelets all by yourself:
Clip-on bracelets and watches look lovely with different kinds of outfits, but if you are doing it alone, you might get frustrated trying to get both ends of it to meet.
There’s an easier way that let’s you keep your composure and takes only a few seconds. Use a small strip of tape to attach one end of the bracelet to your wrist and bring the other end around with ease. Once you have clipped on the bracelet, pull off the tape gently. The job is done.
8. No more clingy pants:
If your formal pants often cling to your legs because of static, a simple safety pin can fix that imperfection.
Attach that pin on the inside of your pants, close to the edge of the seam just above your feet. This cancels out the static effect, and your pants obediently stay in the normal position.
9. Last-minute collar hack:
If you’re all dressed-up for work, and then notice that your collar looks crumpled, wait before you consider taking it off and ironing it. You are sure to lose out on some precious minutes doing the ironing, and there is a much simpler solution to the problem.
Your hair-iron is just as good at straightening your collar as your regular iron. Simply run it along the collar lightly a few times, and you will have a perfectly ironed collar.
10. No sweat-stains under your sleeves anymore:
The round wet stain on your top under your sleeve looks unpleasant, but mostly, we don’t consider that there is anything that can control it. However, it can be avoided with one simple trick.
Attach a panty liner on the inside of the outfit, covering the armpit area. This material will soak in all the sweat, keep your underarms fresh and dry and there will be no sweat stains visible on the outside.
