How to Become a Morning Person

Mornings, we all hate the, but they are an inevitable part of everyday unfortunately. If you’re anything like I use to be, you have to drag yourself out of bed, you’re grouchy, and the thought of putting on clothes for the day gives you a headache. All growing up throughout school I would snooze my alarm, sometimes in my sleep, until I literally only had five minutes to leave the house so I wouldn’t be late, resulting in me being late several times of course. I realized over the years that I couldn’t keep up this routine, it was simply unhealthy and unbearable for me.

Luckily for me, after several mornings of trial and error, I found a routine that WORKS. I’m not saying I still don’t have days that I hit the snooze button one too many times, but I can finally say that I am now a “morning person”.

Come Up With A Routine

This is the most important step in becoming a morning person. I learned by having a routine it 1.) gives you something to look forward to when waking up, and 2.) it keeps you accountable. I’ll give you an overall idea as to what mine looks like.

I wake up every morning and head straight to my coffee station, and turn my coffee pot on to get the liquid gold going.

While my coffee is brewing, I go ahead and let our pups out, sweep the floors, straighten up overall, and mop. This takes me about 15 minutes, and by then my coffee is ready. I fix my cup and sit down either on my couch or at my desk, depending on how I’m feeling, and scroll around social media on my phone and then check emails and my website.

After my cup is empty, I fix a quick and simple breakfast, which is usually either oatmeal or eggs. I finish up emails while eating, and then throw on some workout clothes and go for my morning walk. I walk for about 25 minutes, get home, and shower. I then put on my clothes for the day and get my day started.

Now this allows me to know how much time I need to get ready in the mornings, therefor what time I need to be awake!

Set Your Alarm For 30 Minutes Earlier

To keep it simple, if you need to be awake by 6:30, set your alarm for 6:00. This gives you 30 extra minutes in the morning to make sure you are awake in time to start your day. Whether you spend those 30 minutes convincing yourself to get out of bed, scrolling on your phone, planning out your day, or getting a little head start to your routine, it is enough time to get yourself going. This is also ideal because it makes sure you're not in a rush at any point during your morning, because being in a rush is the WORST. This has become a life saver on days I need just a few extra minutes to get myself out of bed!

Get Moving ASAP

As you read in my morning routine, I start cleaning right away when I wake up to get my body moving. This helps not only your body, but your mind as well to wake up and get the blood flowing. It gives your mind something to focus on, your body something to do, and results in you waking up without even trying!

Grab Some Sunlight

Even if you don't have time to take a walk or a run, step outside, let the sun shine on your skin, and breathe in some fresh air before you start the day. Let your body feel that the new day has begun! Fresh air in the morning is one of the best smells to me, and it really helps me get in the mindset of starting a new day. Listen to the birds chirp for a minute, it can really open your eyes!

These are my four simple tips to add to your morning to become more of a morning person! They have helped me tremendously, so give them a try! Starting your day off happier can affect your entire day. So, stop being in a rush, and give yourself the time you need to set the rest of your day up for success.
